EP19 Trauma Recovery: Building Connection and Creating Healing
I love this space so much because it gives me the opportunity to connect with people I know, people I don’t know and people I haven’t talked to in years. I put a call out on Instagram asking people to share their story with me. I wanted to cast the net far and wide because I know there are some stories out there that need to told. This podcast is important to me. I want to share stories of hope, inspiration; stories that are funny and stories of complete badassery.
My next guest reached out to me in response to that call and I literally leaped out of my chair. I grew up with Brooke, but hadn’t talked to her in decades. Isn’t it funny how life works out like that? Somehow our journey’s would cross again YEARS later? On our pre-call, we talked about all the things, including her inspiring and impactful job, and I just kept thinking about all of us and that if we keep going, putting one foot in front of the other, our journeys will continue to surprise, bless and even encourage us. Getting to reconnect with Brooke has been such a gift.
Brooke House grew up in the Austin area and moved to Boerne in 2004. She’s the mother of four fascinating kids & two ridiculous dogs. She has a BA in Psychology, an MA in Leadership and Human Resource Development along with numerous certifications and licenses focused on trauma recovery. She’s the Chief Program Officer for Kendall County Women’s Shelter and spends her time developing staff members and programs focused on a foundation of support for survivors of domestic violence and their families. She’s a powerhouse who’s turned her struggles into fuel for others.
Join us in this casual conversation as we talk about our experiences growing up, about foster care, trauma and trauma recovery. Here’s the thing: Everybody’s experienced something traumatic in their life—a car wreck, being bullied, divorce, infertility, abuse and sometimes our healing comes when we hear someone else tell their story. Hearing each other’s story helps us feel less alone and more connected to each other. I hope this conversation helps you today.
